Recently I have been able to begin exploring some wonderful new collaborative possibilities, especially through working with the duo format. What I like about this format, (apart from it taking up less stage and tour car space!) is the way it encourages one to explore the possibilities of your instrument further by placing a larger responsibility on each person. It is a large step away from playing solo, but still a great deal of weight placed on each person sonically. Playing in a duo gives the opportunity to get to know your fellow musician more intimately, how they phrase, how they groove, how they respond to your ideas and how the musical dialogue melds or messes with one another. I’ve decided to follow this fascination of playing in a duo format more fervently. I am super lucky to have several awesome musicians I am or will be collaborating with over the coming months and hopefully years including fiddler and multi-instrumentalist Jaron Freeman-Fox (Toronto, Canada), guitarist Adrian Ramírez (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Bandoneonist Stephen Cutriss (Melbourne), Guitarist Camaran De La Vega (Brisbane), and Sydney locals Guitarist Luke Chapman and Bassist Nick Henderson. Keep your ears and eyes out for more posts on these projects with music, gigs and vids 🙂
